The Power of Water Fasting

What if I told you consuming nothing but water for a few days could change your life forever? Water fasting is the closest thing we get to healing magic. From my own experience, facilitating fasts for others, and the massive amounts of stories from others I’ve learned to never underestimate the healing power and potential of the human body. If modern science could create a medication that could mimic the results of a waterfast, there’s no doubt in my mind it would be the top medication in the world. I’ve been practicing waterfasting for more than a decade now and have personally seen an absurd amount of benefits, but this article is one of many and primarily serves to inspire and spark your own deep dive into this ancient practice. With my original deep dives into the subject I found my first thread of inspiration in a man named Angus Barbieri.

The Man Who Went 382 Days Without Eating
In 1965, 27-year-old Angus Barbieri from Scotland fasted for 382 days under medical supervision, consuming no food and losing 275 lbs (125 kg). Starting at 456 lbs (207 kg), he aimed to reach his ideal weight of 180 lbs (81.6 kg). Doctors provided multivitamins, potassium, sodium, yeast, and calorie-free drinks like black tea, coffee, and sparkling water. His body adapted by burning fat stores, and despite very low blood glucose levels for months, he remained in good health. After the extended fast, his weight never went past 195 lbs (88.5 kg) and arguably extended his life 20 years due to the extended fast. 

Now the stats alone had me shook, but the most impressive aspect about this is that Angus didn’t have any loose skin. His whole body and physique literally shrunk down, you never would have known he was morbidly obese. This inspired me to dive even deeper into the more spiritual and mystical realms of water fasting.

The Man Who Went More Than 70 Years Without Eating
Yogi Prahlad Jani (video reference) was another example of a medically supervised test. He spent 10 days being observed by physicians at a top university in India, and to their surprise, everything he claimed was true. Not only that, they observed his bladder filled up and shrank back down, reabsorbing his urine into the body. Now this example was my confirmation that the human body truly is divine, and when we tap into our innate powers, we can transcend what modern science tells us.

Although these two cases are extreme, my own introduction to water fasting began with a little over 5 days. Those stories sparked something inside me and gave me the trust that not only would I survive, but that the experience would transform my life in multiple ways. What I found was a profound sense of inner calm and clarity. My body seemed to reset—not just in the foods I craved, but in the visible benefits to gut health, skin vitality, and overall metabolism. I’ll save the deeper detox stories and benefits for a future article, but they were amazingly wild, encouraging, and life-changing.

At its core, water fasting is a practice of willpower and surrender. With many rewards that grace every aspect of life and experiences that will change your life for the better. While there are important precautions to observe, nothing compares to the wisdom and truth of your own lived experience.

The Fundamentals and Basics of Waterfasting
I always recommend to safely dive into these waters, one gradually build themselves up to a longer fast. Intermittent fasting or undergoing the OMAD (one meal a day) approach will begin to train the body to operating without food. Anywhere from a 16 hour to 19 hour fast is an ideal target.

From there, progress to drinking nothing but water for 24-48 hours. The good thing is your body is still processing most of your food for the first 2 days of fasting, you’re going to feel hunger waves, mild headaches, cravings, some fatigue as your body transitions to fat metabolism. This is the bucking of the horse, as the body is used to constant consumption, but don’t worry, you’ll survive. 

By 72–96 hours (3–4 Days) your body begins to enter ketosis and states of accelerated repair. As ketosis kicks in your hunger reduces and subsides and sharper focus arises. This is also a period of taking it slow, the body is shifting gears so be sure to treat it gently. 

At 5-7 days your body goes into full systemic reset and the regeneration benefits begin to skyrocket. You begin to feel deeply calm with steady energy. You fully understand the saying “you are what you eat” as emotions and thoughts are released.

Beyond 8 days is where you get into the spiritual and mystical natures of life. Energy and vibrations become increasingly tangible to your experience, the clarity is indescribable, however these states also require more understanding of your bodily needs. 


Your first fasts are always the most difficult, as the body begins to clean out and purge from toxins, so I truly recommend building yourself up and begin the whole process by eating clean whole foods and easing into it. There will be plenty more deep dives and protocols for water fasting, but I hope this serves as a note of inspiration to dabble and explore the healing potential of your body, for it truly is miraculous at healing when we allow it to reset. Waterfasting is the gateway not only into physical empowerment, but spiritual liberation.
